A mysterious “Alien”, spotted and photographed by the Perseverance rover, in April 2021. It was enough to fascinate Internet users, and fuel the theory of life on the red planet. On February 3, the “UFO Sightings Daily” account published a video on Youtube, featuring the snapshot. Titled “This is 100% proof of life! », This one is analyzed by Scott Wairing, author of a blog devoted to UFOs and other space mysteries.
In this video, Scott Wairing comments: “There is a person lying down watching the NASA rover sent to Mars. (…) She wears a dark suit, but has a gray object on one of the shoulders… It looks like a backpack or something. There are even footprints behind this person, towards the place where he chose to lie down.
Mars does not have the necessary conditions to develop a form of life
Intrigued, many media have in turn dissected this enigmatic photograph, like the American news site Newsweek. The media interviewed NASA scientist Mitch Schulte, who asserts that the conditions for hosting life on Mars are not met (lack of water, high levels of radiation, very low temperatures and very low atmospheric pressure, etc.).
On the other hand, none of the NASA representatives could explain what this shape visible in the photo corresponds to. In an article published by the space agency, it indicates that this type of unusual silhouettes on the surface of Mars are often the result of erosion.
An optical illusion
On the other hand, our colleagues from BFMTV contacted a clinical psychologist, who considers, for her part, that this phenomenon is a pareidolia: “The mind will have this natural and cognitive tendency to give forms to things that it does not know to try not to stay in an unknown or mystical dynamic, ”she explained.
In other words, it is an optical illusion, which occurs for example when the brain thinks it recognizes or sees shapes it knows (faces, animals, objects, etc.) in clouds, constellations , smoke or an ink stain…
But Scott Wairing is sticking to his guns: “I persist and say that every detail I analyze about Mars is 100% true. Has the US government ever lied to us? Sure ! “.
